So the weekend is almost over and now that I look back at the last two days, I realize its been one of the laziest weekends ever spent. This harsh Delhi heat just wouldn't let me get out of the house when all I desperately want to do is to check out the new collection at Zara and buy my favorite silver shade of nail paint. But then as they say, boredom makes you do crazy things and so I searched the entire house for all the useless eyeshadows, which I am quite sure all you girls would be having ( Oh! This color is so pretty, will use it later.. Clearly that later never came!) So yes, take those eyeshadows out and use them to make your own nail polishes. Sounds tough but actually its a 5 minute job! Here's how to get those perfect colors you've always been wanting ;)
This is how I made this silver nail lacquer I've been wanting from the past two weeks and similarly you can make your own colors following these steps :) Don't forget to tell us how you feel about this post !

What goes around really does come around and look how these cassette phone covers make the perfect style statement this season. Bright colors setting the mood right to go along with our sunny days.
This is my cover for Blackberry Bold 4.
You could also look at this page I recently came across for inspiring new retro designs (http://www.thisiscocaine.com/). One can always step down in the market to catch a cheaper bargain though.
P.s - I absolutely love the vintage camphone cover :)
WIFW has always been high on Bollywood quotient and the A/W 13 collection too would have been incomplete without all the celebrity attention it got.

Finally the day all fashion lovers across the city wait for is here and what better way to start than Masaba's debut collection for Satyapaul. A balanced mix of neons and subtle colors, this show was a party. Main highlight were the lipstick and telephone booth prints. Anupama Dayal reinvents Delhi with her collection Ishq-e-dilli. The show is started with monochromes which bursts into an array of colors. She takes inspiration from Mughal and Islamic art. The beautiful and intricate lahengas are an absolute delight! Anaikka by Kanika Saluja talks about the woman of today who is bold, modern and fearless. The collection starts with nudes and goes to darker shades. We see her werqing the rock look!

Vineet Bahl's collection Awadh is all about Lucknowi silhouettes, chikankari and mirror work. Handloom fabrics with intricate thread embroidery is seen throughout. Pankaj and Nidhi's collection The Music Box takes inspiration from the sounds various musical instruments produce. The collection is young, fresh with lattice work, asymmetrical hemlines and lots of textures. I fell in love with the peplums and the socks+heels.

Day 2 of WIFW is started by Bodice by Ruchika Sachdeva with some fantastic peices. Muted color palette and subtle make up gives her collection a sombre feeling. Her collection is all about androgyny with style taking us back to school! Samant Chauhan's show is started by the sound of bikes thus we see some fab tan biker jackets on the ramp. What I didn't understand was the need to bring in flowy white gowns and floral print dresses afterwards. Urvashi Kaur's AW collection is ethnic and nomadic with a very nature based color palette. Flowy silhouettes, tie and die is seen throughout.

Arjun Saluja's AW collection 'AIK' is his search for the true meaning of the digit One. His collection is crisp, structured and neat with Arjun Saluja written all over it. We see motifs, prints and what the designer does the best, Androgyny. Alpana Neeraj's collection is glamorous, dark and gothic. Scaly, glossy and futuristic garments were the highlight. Loved the fish tail gowns and exaggerated shoulders. The master of drapes doesn't disappoint us yet again with lots of layering and textures. The color palette is mostly warm with a few all black outfits. His signature sarees are my favorite!

It goes without saying that Shantanu and Nikhil's AW13 collection makes it to my top 5. The menswear left me drooling and oh that beautiful saree in the middle. Beautiful drapes, structured fits and the vivid color palette that takes us through the Thar desert just made everything perfect!

Day 3 of WIFW was started by Ekta and Ruchira's AW collection which took inspiration from our very own motherland India. The collection is vibrant and festive, extremely traditional playing with fabrics such as Matka, Chanderi silk and Chiffons. The motifs were beautifully incorporated. Rajdeep Ranawat takes us back to the medieval era and enchants us with his prints an edgy accessories. Metallics and royal colors are seen throughout. His collection is elegant but not everyone's cup of tea. Joy Mitra's AW13 collection celebrates 100 glorious years of Bollywood. From the music to the Bollywood prints, it was all such a treat to watch. The color palette is maroons and mustards mostly.
(L-R) Ekru by Ekta Jaipuria & Ruchira Kandhari. Rajdeep Ranawat. Joy Mitra.
Reynu Taandon's AW collection is feminine with flowy silhouettes and earthy tones. Here is a sneak peak of her collection.
Rajesh Pratap Singh's showcases a Fall Winter Collection is the real sense. Exploring the different techniques of making wool, he plays around with a lot fabrics like tweed, knitted wool, jacquard. Tailored fits, contrasting colors and geometrical designs are the highlights of the show! His collection is definitely in my top 5! Abraham and Thakore reinvent the banarasi brocade in their AW13 collection. They take inspiration from the warp and weft of threads. Their collection Shaadi Redux showcases the 21st century bridal wear with intricate weaves, shimmer & gold, big red bindis and androgyny.

Manish Malhotra's AW collection is all about Phulkari embroidery and beautiful Autumn colors. Structured jackets for men or the floor length anarkalis, I loved it all. The turbans and parandis take us straight to Punjab. I am feeling nostalgic now. :)

Day 4 of WIFW had some fabulous shows put up but Anand Bhushan's collection definitely makes it to my top 5. His collection is inspired by blocks of life and how they build our memories. The color palette is monochromatic and he werqs black like never before. Checks and leather are constant. Its clean, defined and we love it! Pia Pauro on the other hand is a burst of colors. With her vibrant persian prints she takes us to Kazakhstan. Her collection Mountain Chic is textured playing with silks and needlework. The boots and head jewellery are beautiful to watch! Shivan and Narresh's Naive art collection is all about fluorescence, prints and feminine cuts. The swimwear and the abstract faced accessories are the highlight.
(L-R) Anand Bhushan. Pia Pauro. Shivan&Narresh.
(L-R) Dev r Nil. Pero by Aneeth Arora. Payal Pratap Singh.
Dev r Nil showcase a collection inspired by the winter cold thus the color palette is limited to the basic colors with a hint of teal and olive. Fern leaves and rose motifs are brilliantly incorporated within the garments. Applique technique, cut work and japanese beading make these motifs come alive. Pero by Aneeth Arora is an absolute visual treat. Her circus themed collection is a riot of colors experimenting with different fabrics and techniques from all over the county. Magicians hat, cherry nose, bow ties, juggling bottles and balloons add the fun element to this carnival! Payal Pratap Singh's AW13 collection is Indo-Boho playing with floral prints. Her collection focuses on a purple and blue color palette and intricate detailing and thread work. The collection is romantic with a vintage feel to it.
(L-R) Rahul Mishra. My Village by Rimzim Dadu. Geisha Designs by Paras & Shalini.
Day 4 also showcased some fascinating accessories and make up. Rahul Mishra's collection The Baroque Tree had bold dark eyes with black sequins on the eye lids. Metallic ear cuffs, sequins and metal embellishments for designer Rimzim dadu. Geisha Designs by Paras and Shalini had their models sporting tribal tattoos and blingy headbands.
So here it is, my first blog post for the Red Velvet Closet. With Delhi still buzzed with the 5 day fashion marathon, what better way to start than to bring back all the glamorous nostalgia from Wills India Fashion Week AW13.
Charu Parashar's AW13 collection is blingy with a hint of fur here and there and a lot of prints inspired by the egyptian palaces. Its an evening collection with some fantastic pieces. Virtues takes us back to the 18th century with the Nawabs of Oudh showcasing handblock prints and mashru fabrics. Royal, elegant with classy cuts. Rehane's collection is subtle and feminine. The color palette is pastels with splashes of occasional color. The collection didn't win my heart but I did like nude and beige collection.

Captain! Must Qulandar takes us to the future in her time machine. Its eccentric, quirky and futuristic. Loved the velvet pants and lennon glasses. Jesse Randhawa walks as the showstopper in an installation garment of tablets and picture frames. Definitely the highlight of the show.
